Information
The 485 series 3000 series is a limited express train that was introduced in 1996 as a result of renovation work, mainly to the 485 series 1000 series.
The Aomori Rolling Stock Center's 485 series was deployed as 6-car formations for the Shiratori and 4-car formations for the Tsugaru (since 2010), and intermediate car units were also deployed, with additional cars being added during peak passenger periods and on weekends, resulting in 8-car formations being seen in operation.
Around 2004, the undercarriage and bogies were changed to gray, and in 2010 the formation's orientation was changed to unify the customer service facilities within the formation with the 789 series.
These trains supported transport on the Tsugaru Strait Line until the Shiratori service was discontinued following the opening of the Hokkaido Shinkansen in March 2016, at which point they were retired.
