information
Before freight trains were fully converted into container trains, freight trains made up of a large number of two-axle freight cars manufactured for specific purposes operated on every corner of not only main lines but also local lines, building a logistics network. Previously, the maximum speed of JNR freight trains was 65 km/h, but after the timetable revision in October 1968 (Yonsanto), a maximum speed of 75 km/h became the standard. Freight cars that had not been modified to increase speed, such as by using double-link trains, or freight cars that were structurally unable to handle higher speeds, were identified by a yellow stripe, and yellow-striped freight cars confined to Hokkaido were particularly identified by the words "No Travel Outside Hokkaido."
