●The EF65 1000 series, a versatile DC electric locomotive capable of hauling both passenger and freight trains, was introduced in 1969. It saw widespread use across Japan’s electrified, relatively flat DC-powered lines, pulling a variety of trains, including "Blue Train" sleeper services and freight consists. Locomotive EF65 1118 entered service in 1997 as a replacement for the aging EF65 1019—the original unit to feature the "Rainbow" livery. A distinctive design element of the EF65 1118 is the large "EF65" logo emblazoned on the side of the locomotive, which extends across the side windows. Initially, the rubber window seals (H-gaskets) were gray, but they were changed to black during an inspection in March 2000. Furthermore, an air-conditioning system was installed in 2006, and during an inspection in 2009, the portion of the "EF65" logo that previously extended over the side windows was removed.
