JRF ED79-50

Information
The ED79-50 series is an electric locomotive manufactured by JR Freight starting in 1989 to increase the number of freight trains on the Tsugaru Kaikyo Line between Aomori Signal Station and Goryokaku.
The ED79 series was modified from the previous ED75 series and had a different paint job. The front windows were angled upward and had icicles (eaves) attached to the top of the windows, giving it a different appearance.
These locomotives were typically used in pairs to pull freight trains, with only the pantograph on one car always in use, regardless of the direction of travel.
They continued to be used even after the EH500 series, which was capable of direct access through the Seikan Tunnel, was introduced in 2000, but were retired in 2015 when they were replaced by the EH800 series, a dual-voltage locomotive introduced prior to the opening of the Hokkaido Shinkansen.
