Information
The Ainokaze Toyama Railway opened on March 14, 2015, at the same time as the Hokuriku Shinkansen extension to Kanazawa, inheriting the Toyama Prefecture section of the parallel conventional line. JR West transferred five 413 series trains (15 cars). In 2016, one train underwent simple modifications, including paint job and Western-style toilets, and was introduced as the "Toyama Emaki" (Toyama Picture Scroll). It operates in conjunction with various events and also as a regular train, mainly in the mornings and evenings. In March 2021, Echigo Tokimeki Railway purchased one three-car 413 series train and Kuha 455-701 from JR West. Modifications were made to the train, including changing the body color, installing tables in some seats, and modifying safety equipment, to recreate the atmosphere of the JNR's former rolling stock. The train consists of three cars, with Kuha 412-6 and Kuha 455-701 replaced, and the surplus Kuha 412-6 was preserved and exhibited at the newly established "Naoetsu D51 Rail Park" at the Naoetsu Operations Center prior to the start of commercial operation. Since July of the same year, it has been operating as an express train on the Nihonkai Hisui Line and a rapid train on the Myoko Haneuma Line.
