Information
●When the EF81 was in service, it was used to pull the sleeper express "Hokutosei," so some of the cars were painted in "Hokutosei livery" with a red body and a large shooting star painted on it. The No. 81 locomotive is the only one of these that was formerly used to pull an imperial train, and is distinctive for its silver decorations in various places. Its use at Tabata Depot was not limited to pulling the Hokutosei sleeper express, but also included the Akebono and Cassiopeia sleeper expresses, special trains, and freight trains, and it was widely used. In August 2014, it was restored to the imperial livery of Red No. 13 (rose pink), and it continues to be in service today.
◆ Equipped with a newly developed slotless motor as standard
By adopting a newly developed slotless motor, it demonstrates smoother and quieter running performance than existing motors.
