Information
The first group of EF65-1000 series locomotives manufactured were introduced to replace the 500 series used on the Tohoku Main Line.
Initially, they were notable for not having a canopy attached; in later years, one was added only above the front windows, but not above the headlights, giving them a different appearance from the group from 1018 onwards.
1001 was the last of its group to retain its JNR livery, remaining in service until 2008, and is currently stored at Tokyo Freight Terminal Station.
