The C57 class passenger steam locomotive was introduced as the successor to the C55 class, and was in service on main and sub-main lines throughout the country.
Of this class, No. 135 pulled Train 225, the last passenger train operated by a steam locomotive for JNR on December 14, 1975. It was later housed at the Transportation Museum and is now preserved at the Railway Museum.
