JR EF64-1000 (No. 1001/Gunma Center)
Information
The EF64-1000 is a DC electric locomotive for steeply sloping tracks that was introduced in 1980 to replace older electric locomotives on the Takasaki and Joetsu lines.
When the Japanese National Railways (JNR) was privatized, No. 1001 was stationed at Takasaki Rolling Stock Center, and painted brown with a white stripe, it was used to pull event trains and other events.
In 2017, it was restored to the JNR livery with gray H-rubber rubber, and around 2022 the electric heating lights were removed, after which it continued to be used until it was retired in November 2024.
