Information
The 401 series is an AC/DC commuter train developed for the Joban Line in 1960, and from midway through the series the front of the leading car was given a high driver's cab like the KuHa 153-500 series.
The exterior was originally painted rose pink, but from 1983 the paint was gradually changed to cream with a blue stripe in time for the Tsukuba Expo held in 1985.
