The EF210-300 series was introduced in 2012 to replace the EF65 and EF66 series, as well as to serve as a helper locomotive on the steep slopes between Seno and Hachihonmatsu, where the previously dedicated EF67 series was used.
Since 2019, the "Momotaro" character has been added to the side of the car body, and it is now in service in a wide area from Kanto to Kansai.
