●Oha 46/Ohafu 45 is a lightweight version of the postwar standard passenger car Suha 43/Suhafu 42. It was introduced in 1955 and was deployed nationwide except for Hokkaido, and was used for a wide range of trains from express to local. The steel roof eliminates the canvas press at the end of the car, giving it a clean end face and thin side gutters, making it instantly recognizable even among the Suha 43 series.
After 1963, with the modernization of passenger room facilities (such as the conversion of electric lights to fluorescent lights), the brown paintwork that was used at the time of its introduction was changed to blue, and it was used until the end of the JNR era.
