In the 1950s, JNR planned to increase the speed of freight trains and developed the 10000 series freight cars. Smaller than the current JNR Class 1 container can be loaded, and KOKI 10000 without a conductor's compartment could be loaded with 5 pieces. Later, when the standard of the container shifted to the second type, which was larger, the Koki 10000 was remodeled to hold 4 units. All cars were discontinued in 1996 after being replaced by the successor Koki 100 series. The Koki 60000 was manufactured by JNR from 1984 to 1985 by extending and remodeling the Koki 5500 in order to achieve the same loading capacity and running performance as the Koki 50000. Due to the inability to load a 20 ft container, complete common operation with KOKI 50000 was not possible, and there were restrictions on operation. With the shift to JR in April 1987, all 127 cars were taken over by Japan Freight Railway (JR Freight), but when the introduction of Koki 100 series container cars with improved loading capacity and high speed performance became full-scale, they were subject to selection. All cars were scrapped by 1997.
