3 Cars Set
Information
●To replace aging rolling stock, Toyama Chihō Railway introduced eight two-car sets of the Keihan 3000 series between 1990 and 1993. Because the track gauges differed, the trains were fitted with bogies from the Eidan 3000 series—which were being retired at the time—and were designated the 10030 series due to their 75 kW (100 hp) motor output. Although they initially operated in the Keihan Electric Railway's limited express livery, the body colors were gradually changed to a new scheme of bright yellow and green by 1999. Later, the second set (cars 10033 and 10034) underwent a power upgrade; their bogies and motors were replaced with DT32 and MT54 units sourced from JR West. In 2013, anticipating the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen, the railway introduced a double-decker car from Keihan Electric Railway to operate a new sightseeing limited express service. This car was inserted between units 10033 and 10034 as the "Saha 31." At the same time, the lead cars were restored to the Keihan limited express livery—complete with the return of the front-end "dove" emblem and pilot skirts—and the train began service in August of that year as the "Double Decker Express," strongly evoking the look of its Keihan era.
