The KTR8000 series is a diesel railcar for express trains operated by the Kitakinki Tango Railway, introduced in 1996. Known as the "Tango Discovery," it was primarily used on the express train of the same name until March 2011.
The "Tango no Umi" (Sea of Tango) was introduced in 2015, based on the KTR8000 series but significantly refurbished with the image of "Kyoto by the Sea."
All vehicles of this type were refurbished by September 2017.
Currently, it operates on the "Tango Relay" express train, which runs only on the Kyoto Tango Railway line, and on some "Maizuru" and "Hashidate" express trains that run on JR lines to Kyoto Station.
