Information
In 1988, Seibu Railway introduced the 4000 series to improve transportation between Hannō and Seibu-Chichibu and for through service to the Chichibu Railway line. The 4000 series was Seibu Railway's first suburban train, with a 20-meter-long, two-door-per-side body made of ordinary steel, a semi-cross-seat interior, and a rounded front shape based on the 2000 series commuter train that was being manufactured at the time. Twelve 4-car sets were manufactured sequentially by 1992. In April 2016, the "Seibu Traveling Restaurant '52 Seats of Bliss'" was created as a new sightseeing train, a conversion of the 4000 series 4009 train set, with the aim of revitalizing the areas along the railway line and providing a new style of travel. This restaurant train serves dishes using local specialties from the Chichibu area and has been well-received, offering a brunch course from Ikebukuro/Seibu Shinjuku to Seibu Chichibu and a dinner course from Seibu Chichibu to Ikebukuro/Seibu Shinjuku. Of the four cars, "52 Autumn" has a kitchen with an open counter, "52 Summer" and "52 Winter" have dining rooms, and "52 Spring" is a multi-purpose space that can accommodate events on board. In the spring of 2024, some details were changed, including the removal of the car numbers that had been posted next to the doors, the addition of triangular marks to the crew compartment doors, slight shifts in the position of various logos, and the replacement of the car numbers posted at the ends of the cars with the triangular marks on the door cocks.
