●The E129 series is a general-purpose electric train introduced in 2014 for the Niigata area.
The train consists of two-car sets (100 series) called A sets and four-car sets (0 series) called B sets, allowing for flexible configurations of two to six cars depending on the combination of these sets.
A key feature of the E129 series is that the position of the passenger doors is aligned between the leading and intermediate cars, ensuring that passenger boarding and alighting positions do not shift when adding cars. The intermediate cars also feature the same end space and door arrangement as the leading cars.
In 2022, the A33 and A34 sets of the A set and the B27 set of the B set were added, and the roof bead arrangement was changed from the previous 5-bead, 3-group arrangement to a 27-bead arrangement, significantly altering the appearance of the roof.
The E129 series is currently in service on the Shin'etsu Main Line, Uetsu Main Line, Hakushin Line, Echigo Line, Yahiko Line, and Joetsu Line.
