The 205 series is a commuter train that began commercial operation in 1985.
The second batch of 205 series cars was added in 1985 as the first batch of mass-produced cars, at the end of the JNR era, and is a group that changed from the first batch's double-pane windows to single-pane drop windows.
The second batch includes train sets 5 to 22, and is characterized by a staggered arrangement of steps on the coupling surfaces; from the third batch onwards, these steps were changed to two vertical rows.
When these cars were first introduced, all Moha 204 cars were equipped with BLMGs, but since the power supply capacity was sufficient with two cars per train, the BLMG on car 5's Moha 204 was later removed and the BLMG was transferred to additional Moha 204 cars.
Later, as a measure to alleviate congestion, the number of cars in this train was changed from 10 to 11, with the addition of 6-door Saha 204 cars.
After serving on the Yamanote Line, they were remodeled in 2002 and transferred to other lines to replace older cars remaining on other lines.
