Information
●The EF57 is a DC electric passenger locomotive that represented the pre-war Japanese National Railways, born in 1940. Its bold style, with leading bogie decks at the front and rear, made it a staple on the Tokaido Main Line, pulling express trains such as the Tsubame. It was later transferred to the Tohoku Main Line, where it was fitted with an electric heating system for passenger trains and used to pull express trains such as the Hakkoda and Tsugaru, as well as local trains.
The most prominent of these, No. 1, is an unorthodox locomotive with a squared-off body inspired by the second generation EF56 (8-12) and a pantograph positioned closer to the center, giving it a significantly different appearance from the No. 2 and subsequent units.
◆ Equipped with a newly developed slotless motor as standard
By adopting a newly developed slotless motor, it demonstrates smoother and quieter running performance than existing motors.
