● The H5 series debuted in 2016 as JR Hokkaido's first Shinkansen. It is based on JR East's E5 series, with some modifications to the interior and exterior. The basic appearance and paint scheme are similar to the E5 series, but it has a lavender-colored stripe called "Saika Purple," and a symbol mark featuring Hokkaido and a white gyrfalcon is adorning the side of five cars in the train set. Like the E5 series, it is currently in service on the "Hayabusa" line connecting Tokyo and Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto.
