information
The EF510-300 series is an AC/DC electric locomotive introduced to replace the ED76 and EF81 series currently operating in Kyushu.
The previous 0 and 500 series, which mostly ran on DC sections, were equipped with dynamic braking, but the 300 series is equipped with AC regenerative braking as it mainly runs on AC sections.
The livery is based on the silver of the EF81-300 series, with navy blue and a red stripe on the bottom of the car. The car also inherits the nickname "ECO-POWER Red Thunder" from the previous EF510 series, and features a logo on the side of the car.
Mass-produced cars were introduced in 2024, entering service in March of the same year and operating mainly on the Kagoshima Main Line and Nippo Main Line.
Mass-produced cars from No. 302 onwards have some of the louvers on the sides and roof equipment blocked off, a distinctive difference in appearance from the pre-production model, No. 301.
