The Yo-5000 was used as a brake van for the container express "Takara-go" in 1959, and was a vehicle that had its running gear modified to a two-stage link from the Yo-3500 brake van, allowing it to travel at a maximum speed of 85km/h. Later, newly manufactured Yo-5000 cars were added, and the vehicle was used nationwide as a caboose for freight trains.
