The 205 series is a commuter train that first appeared in 1984.
The 205 series on the Nambu Line was introduced in 1989 to replace the 101 series, with 16 units put into service.
With the introduction of the 209 series, one train was transferred to other lines, bringing the total to 15, and from 1996, skirts were gradually installed.
In later years, 205 series trains were transferred in from other lines, such as the Yamanote Line, to replace older cars, resulting in various variations.
In its later years, it was replaced with a single-arm pantograph and operated as a rapid service, but in 2014 the successor E233-8000 series was introduced, and it retired from its role on the Nambu Line.
