Information
The Kosei Line runs from Yamashina Station in Kyoto Prefecture to Omi-Shiotsu Station in Shiga Prefecture, and as its name suggests, it passes along the western shore of Lake Biwa, connecting the Kansai region with the Hokuriku region.
The Yamashina-Omi-Shiotsu section of the line opened on July 20, 1974, and in July 2024 it will celebrate its 50th anniversary since opening.
The 113 series is a DC suburban train that was introduced in 1963.
The 113 series 700-series trains were newly introduced to the Kosei Line when it opened, and are designed to be cold- and snow-resistant as they run along the snowy west shore of Lake Biwa.
In addition, the trains have been equipped with air conditioning and unit sash side windows since they were manufactured, and because destination displays have been installed on the sides since they were introduced, the side sign holders have been omitted.
When the Kosei Line opened in 1974, some 113 series 700-type trains were given commemorative headmarks..
