Information
●The Hoki 2500 series is a 35-ton capacity hopper car designed for transporting limestone; 172 units were manufactured between 1967 and 1969. They were primarily used to transport crushed stone and limestone. Subsequently, the Hoki 9500 series—an open-top hopper car with the same 35-ton capacity and design as the JNR Hoki 2500—was introduced between 1970 and 1972, with 193 units built to transport construction materials for the New Tokyo International Airport (Narita Airport). Following the completion of airport construction, the cars were reassigned to various private companies; a group transferred to Japan Oil Transportation in 1977 was repurposed for limestone transport. These cars operated in mixed consists of Hoki 2500 and Hoki 9500 units between Okutama Station on the Ome Line and Hama-Kawasaki Station on the Nambu Line, becoming a familiar sight as freight trains running through residential areas.
