Information
●For the 1985 International Exposition (Tsukuba Expo), locomotive EF81-81 was designated to haul the Imperial Train; it was finished in "Red No. 13" (commonly known as Rose Pink) with silver side stripes and silver accents. In addition to hauling the Imperial Train's "Set No. 1" on two occasions, it played an active role pulling famous trains such as the "Orient Express '88" and the "Hokutosei." Later, it was repainted in the "Hokutosei" livery—featuring a "shooting star" emblem on a "Red No. 2" body—but it garnered significant attention in August 2014 when it was restored to its original "Red No. 13" (Rose Pink) color scheme.
◆ Equipped with a newly developed slotless motor as standard
By adopting a newly developed slotless motor, it demonstrates smoother and quieter running performance than existing motors.
