●The E657 series debuted in 2011 as an AC/DC limited express train for the JR Joban Line and continues to serve as a mainstay on that route today.
To coincide with the 2023 Ibaraki Destination Campaign, the E657 series received a special livery inspired by the classic E653 series "Fresh Hitachi," attracting the attention of not only local residents but also many railway enthusiasts. With five different color schemes introduced for the actual trains, KATO is releasing the K3 set—featuring the orange livery—as the fifth addition to its E657 series lineup.
