information
●The Musashino Line's 209-500 series trains were introduced in 2010, following the transfer of three trainsets from the Keiyo Line—a move prompted by the introduction of the E233-5000 series on that line.
Later, the installation of platform gates on the Chuo-Sobu Line necessitated a fleet update; E231-500 series trains previously used on the Yamanote Line were transferred to the Chuo-Sobu Line to meet this need. Consequently, the surplus 209-500 and E231 series trains resulting from this reshuffle were transferred to the Musashino Line to replace the aging 205 series fleet.
Upon their transfer to the Musashino Line, the trains underwent modifications to shorten their formation length, and their livery was updated to the line's signature three-color scheme of orange, white, and sepia.
A total of 11 trainsets were eventually introduced to the Musashino Line by 2019.
They operate across the Musashino Line (between Fuchu-Hommachi and Nishi-Funabashi) and the Keiyo Line (between Nishi-Funabashi and Kaihin-Makuhari/Tokyo), as well as on through-services to the Tohoku Main Line and Chuo Line, specifically the Rapid *Shimousa* (Kaihin-Makuhari to Omiya) and Rapid *Musashino* (Omiya to Hachioji).
