information
"Minori" is a resort train that was introduced on the Rikuu East Line for the Sendai-Miyagi Destination Campaign held in 2008. This three-car train was converted from KiHa 48-500 series rolling stock and adopted design features from the popular "Resort Shirakami" (which operated on the Gono Line), such as large passenger windows and an elevated driver's cab. Its chic exterior featured a color scheme of deep crimson (*kokihiiro*)—evoking autumn foliage—and a refined jet black, accented by a metallic gold band representing ears of rice and antique gold ornamentation on the front inspired by the helmet of Lord Date Masamune. The interior was equipped with reclining seats, an observation area in the lead car, and an event space in the second car.
Since its debut, the train served as the "Resort Minori"—a scheduled sightseeing train connecting Sendai/Kogota, Naruko-Onsen, and Shinjo—and operated as various special excursion trains across the Tohoku region; however, it was retired in August 2020, much to the regret of its many fans.
