●Starting with a black-based livery applied in 2010 for a television program, all eight DE10 locomotives owned by JR Kyushu were successively repainted in the same scheme. Its most striking feature is a bold color scheme: the entire body—including the roof—is black, while the handrails are gold and the running board surfaces are vermilion. Although typically used for shunting operations and hauling work trains, these locomotives also garner significant attention for hauling the "Seven Stars in Kyushu" luxury train. They are also deployed for special train services, including a past instance of hauling the 24-series passenger cars of the "Twilight Express."
