●The ED75-0 series electric locomotive was developed in 1963 to coincide with the electrification of the Jōban Line—using AC power—up to Taira Station (present-day Iwaki Station). A total of 160 units were manufactured; designed exclusively for AC (50 Hz) operation, they served as successors to the ED71 locomotives that had been active on the Tōhoku Main Line. These locomotives handled operations on the Tōhoku Main Line (north of Kuroiso) and the Jōban Line (between Taira and Aomori), playing a versatile role in hauling everything from freight trains and standard passenger trains to "Blue Train" sleeper services.
