Information
●The "Akebono" was a limited express sleeper train connecting Ueno and Aomori.
Although it originally ran via the Tohoku Main Line, its route was changed to the Joetsu, Shin'etsu, and Uetsu Main Lines following the 1997 opening of the Akita Shinkansen; it continued to operate as a scheduled service until March 2014.
The train featured a distinctive consist comprising a diverse range of rolling stock, including three private-compartment sleeper cars and "Goron-to Seat" (and "Ladies' Goron-to Seat") carriages, which passengers could use with just a standard fare ticket and a seat reservation ticket.

The 24-25 series (100-subseries) is a type of limited express sleeping car that debuted in 1976.
Following the discontinuation of the *Asakaze* 1 and 4 services, some of the "gold-stripe" 24-25 series cars that had operated on those trains were transferred to the Aomori Rolling Stock Center, where they subsequently served on the *Akebono*, *Nihonkai*, and *Hakutsuru* services.
The Ohanefu 25-type cars at the Aomori Rolling Stock Center featured a distinctive appearance resulting from the modification of their conductor's compartment windows to open inwards.
