JNR Oya 10 + Oya 33 service passenger cars
2 Cars Set
Information
Japanese National Railways (JNR) deployed "rescue cars" to major passenger car depots for accident and disaster recovery. Because these cars required baggage doors equipped with hoists for loading and unloading recovery materials, most were converted from surplus baggage cars. However, due to vehicle supply and demand, some were converted from passenger cars. Oe61 23 was stationed at the Matsuyama Diesel Car Depot and was converted from an Ohauni 61. Oe61 601 was stationed at the Okayama Passenger and Freight Car Depot and was converted from a Mani 37, characterized by its blue paint scheme, retaining the original paintwork. Many of the older passenger cars used for business purposes were retired before the privatization of JNR, and after privatization, Mani 50 and Suyuni 50 were used as substitute rescue cars. JNR also owned vehicles for various purposes other than passenger service, and regardless of their use, these were designated as "business vehicles" and given the designation "Ya." Oya 10 was a construction accommodation car converted from an Orone 10 and was used in the Kyushu region. The Oya 33 was a modified Ohani 36 electric locomotive training car equipped with training equipment and used to tour locomotive depots in the Tohoku region to provide training on locomotive operation.
