The 681 series trains currently used for the "Shirasagi" were repurposed from the "Thunderbird" and "Hakutaka" trains when the Hokuriku Shinkansen was extended to Kanazawa in 2015. They have undergone modifications in various places, resulting in variations in their interior and exterior.
