Information
The 183 series 1500 series consisted of Kuha 183-1000 series cars equipped with ATC (Automatic Train Control). Six cars were newly built, and eight were modified, resulting in a total of 14 cars.
From 1982, along with the 183 series 1000 series intermediate cars, they were transferred and stationed at the Makuhari Train Depot, where they began operating in the Boso area.
In 1985, some of the 183 series trains at the Makuhari Train Depot were changed to 6-car single-class formations, and during peak seasons, they were extended to 9-car formations using through doors. During this reconfiguration, the leading cars of the 6-car formations were limited to Kuha 183-0 series cars, and many of the 183 series 1000 series intermediate cars were transferred to the Nagano and Matsumoto Depots to increase the number of "Azusa" trains. As a result, formations were created with 1500 series leading cars and 0 series intermediate cars.
