● The RAe II is an AC/DC electric multiple unit (EMU) used exclusively for international trains by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). Introduced in the 1960s, it operated as a first-class international train, the "TEE" (Trans Europ Express), including the "Gotthard" between Zurich and Milan. Later, it was downgraded and repainted, and operated as a "EuroCity" until around 1999. After its retirement, it was recognized as a historical vehicle by the Swiss Federal Railways, and around 2003, one train set was restored to its "TEE" era appearance after some equipment was updated. It is still in service today as an event train.
