Information
● The 287 series is a limited express DC electric train developed by JR West based on the 683 series 4000 series, and is active as the "Kounotori" and "Kuroshio" limited express trains. In 2025, the 60th anniversary of the start of operation of the "Kuroshio" limited express train was celebrated, and a 60th anniversary commemorative (wrapping) train began operation in July of that year. The first design was inspired by the 381 series "Super Kuroshio" that had been in operation since 1989. In August of the same year, the second design appeared, featuring a wrapping that resembled waves from the front to the sides. The first design is scheduled to run until February 2026, and the second design until November 2028.
◆ Equipped with a newly developed slotless motor as standard
By adopting a newly developed slotless motor, it demonstrates smoother and quieter running performance than existing motors.
