●Among the trains used for the "Thunderbird" limited express service, the 683 series 4000 series is a group of 9-car fixed formations manufactured between 2009 and 2011. Unlike the 681 series and 683 series 0 series, it is characterized by its front end with a gangway door (the Kuro 683 has preparatory work) and single-arm pantographs on both leading cars. In addition, an offset collision prevention structure has been adopted to improve safety, and this difference can be seen on the end faces. In 2015, a renewal project was carried out, changing the design from the conventional gray-based design to a black and blue-based design.
