Information
●The Nankai Electric Railway 6000 series is a 20-meter-long commuter train for the Koya Line that debuted in 1962. A total of 72 cars were manufactured, and more than 60 years later, 20 cars are still in active service. It debuted as an all-stainless steel car manufactured by Tokyu Car Corporation (now Japan Transport Engineering Company) in a technical partnership with the American Budd Company, featuring an unpainted corrugated body, uniquely shaped ventilators, and Pioneer III bogies. In 1985, it underwent renovation, air conditioning modification, and bogie replacement, resulting in a distinctive appearance with a heavy roof lined with distributed air conditioning units and different bogies on some Saha 6600 cars and other cars. Since 1992, blue and orange stripe paint has been added, and changes have occurred such as the car number plate on the side near the driver's cab of the leading cars being replaced with a "NANKAI" logo plate. For 57 years since their introduction, they remained in service without a single unit being scrapped, but with the introduction of newer rolling stock, scrapping began in 2019. Currently, 20 units remain in service and are used on a wide range of routes, from local to rapid express, without any distinction from the newer rolling stock.
◆ Equipped with a newly developed slotless motor as standard
By adopting a newly developed slotless motor, it demonstrates smoother and quieter running performance than existing motors.
