Information
●The Nankai Electric Railway 6000 series is a 20m-class commuter train for the Koya Line that debuted in 1962. A total of 72 cars were manufactured, and 20 remain in service today, over 60 years later. They were all-stainless steel cars manufactured by Tokyu Car Corporation (now Japan Transport Engineering Company) through a technical partnership with the American company Budd, featuring unpainted corrugated car bodies, uniquely shaped ventilators, and Pioneer III bogies. In 1985, the train underwent renovations and air conditioning modifications, along with the replacement of the bogies. This resulted in a distinctive appearance, with a heavy roof featuring a row of distributed air conditioning units and different bogies for some Saha 6600 cars and other cars. Since 1992, blue and orange striped paint has been added, and the car number plate on the side of the lead car near the driver's cab has been replaced with a "NANKAI" logo. For 57 years since their introduction, they have been in service without a single car being scrapped, but with the introduction of newer trains, some have been scrapped since 2019. Currently, 20 of these cars remain, and are used for everything from local to rapid express services, without distinction from the newer trains.
◆ Equipped with a newly developed slotless motor as standard
By adopting a newly developed slotless motor, it demonstrates smoother and quieter running performance than existing motors.
