●The 787 Series "36 Plus 3" is JR Kyushu's 12th D&S (Design & Story) train, a modified 787 Series train that began operation in October 2020. It operates counterclockwise around seven Kyushu prefectures from Thursday to Monday, and is a tourist express train that can be boarded on each section of the route each day. The entire interior and exterior were redesigned, with the exterior now sporting a glossy black paint job with gold accents, a departure from the image of the existing 787 Series. Furthermore, emphasizing the value of the riding experience rather than the view from the window, the train features windows with ample use of paper screens and an interior featuring wood grain throughout, with all cars being Green Cars. The buffet has also been revived for the first time in 17 years for the 787 Series, selling drinks, snacks, souvenirs, and merchandise.
