●The NSE (3100 series) was introduced in 1963 as part of efforts to increase tourist transportation capacity. While it inherited specifications such as a low center of gravity and articulated structure from the previous SE cars (3000 series), the driver's seat was located on the second floor in the lead car, and the front section was made into a more deluxe vehicle with an observation car. From 1977 to the following year, air conditioning units were added to improve cooling capacity. After the introduction of the new LSE (7000 series) in 1983, the car body was repaired, and various renovations were carried out, including the automatic retractable front name display and reshaping (from pentagonal to rectangular), repositioning some doors to accommodate the expansion of the cafe and shop area, and changing the outer cover to a urethane core type. In 1997, one train was converted into the "Yume 70" limited express train to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the opening of Odakyu Electric Railway, and became popular for its front car, which was fitted with sofas in every area except the observation room, and its colorful exterior paint.
