Information
●The ED75 was introduced in 1963 as the JNR's standard AC electric locomotive, and is a dual-purpose passenger/freight locomotive with tractive force comparable to that of an F-class DC electric locomotive, despite being a D-class. 91 units of the 700 series were manufactured from 1971, following the electrification of the Akita-Aomori section of the Ou Main Line. Running along the Japan Sea coastline, the ED75 features a clean roof, with its extra-high-voltage equipment housed inside the car to withstand salt damage, cold, and snow, and its under-frame cross-type pantographs that are less likely to pick up snow. Towards the end of the JNR era, some of the cars were specially painted for use in pulling the Joyful Train "Orient Saloon," and served at the front of this and other Joyful Trains, as well as Blue Trains such as the "Akebono," and the "Orient Express '88."

◆ Equipped with a newly developed slotless motor as standard
By adopting a newly developed slotless motor, it demonstrates smoother and quieter running performance than existing motors.
