Information
●The ED76 JR Freight test livery appeared in 1988, shortly after the transition to JR, replacing the previous single-colored Red No. 2 livery with a distinctive color scheme of shades of blue with a white stripe. A total of eight locomotives were stationed at Moji Locomotive Depot, and were active mainly on freight trains throughout Kyushu, but also on passenger trains such as the Blue Train. They particularly attracted attention when they were used to tow the Orient Express '88, which arrived in Japan around the time the livery was introduced. They remained in service until 1992, when all locomotives underwent a general inspection and were repainted in their original single-colored Red No. 2 livery.

◆ Equipped with a newly developed slotless motor as standard
By adopting a newly developed slotless motor, it demonstrates smoother and quieter running performance than existing motors.
