The 923 series is an electric and track comprehensive test vehicle for the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines, manufactured in 2000 with the aim of running at 270 km/h and replacing the aging 922 series.
The 700 series is based on the 700 series and consists of 7 cars, with cars 1-3 and 6 being used for electrical equipment testing, car 4 being used for track equipment testing, and the remaining cars being used as meeting rooms and tour guide rooms.
The body color is different from that of regular Tokaido Shinkansen cars, with yellow and blue stripes, which has earned the train the nickname "Doctor Yellow."
