The E235-1000 series is a new type of train that debuted in December 2020 for use on the Yokosuka and Sobu Lines.
It is the first train of its kind with all long seats in the standard class for medium-distance service, with cross seats only available in the Green Car.
It is also the first train to be equipped with a traction battery, allowing it to self-propel in emergencies such as power outages.
Due to the space required for this emergency power supply, a significant feature is that the air tanks, which were previously located under the floor in some Moha E234 cars, have been moved to the roof.
From the trains added in fiscal year 2022 (F14 and J14 formations), some specifications were revised. Visually, the signal flare on the roof of the leading car was omitted. Also, the electrical coupler was omitted from the front of cars 11 and the additional car 1, and the skirt shape became the same as the 0 series.
It is currently in active service on the Yokosuka and Sobu Lines, as well as on the connecting Narita Line, Kashima Line, Sobu Main Line, Sotobo Line, and Uchibo Line.
