EF58 Late Stage Large Window Blue
Information
- EF58 No. 66 was one of the last group of EF58s (third-stage additions) manufactured with large front windows, and was introduced in 1953. After being assigned to the Tokyo Locomotive Depot, it was transferred to the Shimonoseki Locomotive Depot and then to the Ryuge Locomotive Depot in 1978. At the end of its time at the Tokyo Locomotive Depot, it was fitted with cold weather equipment such as front icicles, and when it was transferred to the Ryuge Locomotive Depot, its front headlights were converted to two lights. At the end of the JNR era, it was popular as the only locomotive with large windows, excluding the designated No. 61, and was also used to pull the night local train "Hayatama." It was stored after being scrapped in 1989, but was dismantled in 1996.
