Information
The DD200 series is a diesel-electric locomotive that was introduced in 2017 to replace the DE10 series. It is in service throughout Japan, except for Hokkaido and Shikoku, for towing freight trains on branch lines and shunting at freight stations, a role previously performed by the DE10 series.
The carbody features a convex semi-center cab like conventional diesel locomotives such as the DE10 series, and in addition to being used for shunting at freight terminals, it is equipped with various safety devices for towing main line trains and is also in service for towing freight trains on relatively long distances on lines such as the Kansai Main Line and Ishinomaki Line.
The same series has also been introduced on coastal railways around the country.
