●The Shinano Railway SR1 Series is the railway's first new train model, running between Karuizawa and Myoko-Kogen (the Shinonoi to Nagano section is under the jurisdiction of JR East). It was introduced based on the E129 Series, which has a proven track record in snow conditions in the Niigata area. Established in conjunction with the construction of the Nagano-Hokuriku Shinkansen, the railway operated the 115 Series, transferred from JR, from its opening in 1997. In 2020, the SR1 Series was introduced to replace the 115 Series. Initially, three liner trains were introduced, followed the following year by general-use trains, including four 200 Series trains and three 300 Series trains without defrosting pantographs.

By adopting a newly developed slotless motor, it demonstrates smoother and quieter running performance than existing motors.
