information
The Asagiri service, which runs between Odakyu Shinjuku and JR Gotemba, was long operated by Odakyu trains, but in 1991 it was extended to Numazu. The 371 series was manufactured for this purpose. Based on the concept of "soft and sophisticated design," it featured high-grade facilities. The two-story Saroha 371 series has green seating on the second floor and regular seating on the first floor, with vertical continuous windows accenting the exterior. The body is made of ordinary steel, with stainless steel used for parts such as the roof. The running equipment is based on the 311 series and 213 series 5000 series, with field excitation control and the same bogies. It entered service with the March 1991 revision, and was used on the Asagiri limited express as well as the Home Liner Numazu. The pantograph was subsequently replaced with a single arm, and a square cover was installed over the fan hole of one of the Moha 371 series' air conditioners. In 2012, the operating range of the Asagiri express was shortened to Gotemba, and once again the service was limited to Odakyu cars only. Even after this, the train continued to be used on special trains in the Tokai region, but was retired in 2014.
